The Camp of the Decadents
I stand with Israel because I don't want Hungary to become a European Palestine.
Preface: Tibet
I used to point to Tibet. Once, 10-15 years ago, Tibet was an example, recognized by the Left, the Far-Left even, that genocide might not involve killing or deporting people; that the Chinese government, by implanting millions of Han Chinese, making the locals a minority will effectively and irreversibly (save for a reversed ethnic cleansing) end Tibet for good.
I pointed at Tibet, but the advocates for us becoming a minority in our homeland didn’t listen. Out of stupidity, out of malice or both. It was a very soft and nuanced example that should have sufficed.
Now a bunch of hippies got slaughtered by Hamas, the very type of decadents that would be indifferent or hostile to my warnings. With this atrocity, let alone the broader mess, a less nuanced example was made, and all you need to do, if not by heart, but to gain a brief, tactical perspective, is to stand with Israel. Let you be Left or Right, straight, gay or incel, just become a spiritual Israeli for the duration of my argument.
Israel
A very dishonest and openly malicious Hungarian Jew once tried to put a lipstick on the nationalist pig that is Israel, by pointing out how many “Left wing” governments the state had since its establishment, making dirty poo-poo nationalism alien to Israel’s character, a minute disorder brought on by Likudnik maniacs.
I called out the obvious bullshit: Israel can have a libertine-decadent Green Communist government that pushes for UBI and state sponsored sex change, their national minimum, “exist at all cost” wouldn’t change. Israel has such a strong, nationalist minimum regarding the fundamental, essential need to exist, by no small part due to the environment it found itself (double meaning), that all other politics are just a sudoku theater.
This is not only true to their party politics, but also true to individuals: an Israeli can be ultraconservative in all manners in his life, to the point of selfishly withdrawing from paying his share of the social cost of keeping the country on the map (the Haredi’s famous exemption from IDF service) or be so libertine that it would shock even the Dutch. This spectrum, with an extremely high dynamic range is capable of coexisting, as long as the foundational national minimum is understood and respected by most.
Ukraine found itself knee deep in the freshly poured cement of this national foundation last February, and once it quickly solidified to provide a uniting platform, the literal Neo-Nazis and rainbow flag transsexuals had no trouble pulling together to preserve the nation in an existential conflict, all other differences be damned to a more peaceful time, in the future. Any gotchas coming from the pro-Kremlin observers regarding this ideological paradox missed 75 years of Israel doing the same, increasingly so (The founding stock was once described by anon as “Holocaust surviving gangsters”, an apt description of the kind of character that can establish an illegal country, in a desert, through amphibious assault. The current population is a lot softer and diverse. Aren’t we all though?).
Being more like Israel is not a technical idea: I don’t dream of Merkavas or concrete walls. It’s not about the practical nuances in the execution of self-defence, that may involve a cunning intelligence agency that doesn’t shy away from assassination, or a military force that may shoot kids throwing rocks, the usual nastiness that results from Israel existing as a Jewish nation state in an environment that rejects it.
It’s an entirely philosophical idea: I’m a Hungarian, there is such a thing as Hungarians, they are a nation, their homeland is Hungary, and they, I, want to exist. Being comparable in our size, population, and recent notoriety also helps to adopt an Israeli mindset.
It’s a ‘siege mentality’, a term most often used pejoratively. I disagree: siege mentality is the nice feeling of a pantry full of food, and two winters’ worth of firewood stacked up in the backyard. It not only doesn’t deprive you any comfort, but by making you less fragile, it provides an existential one. City dweller salarymen, long used to their needs provided by holes in the walls in exchange for money, might not even recognize this existential layer, which could be the source of an intra-Hungarian schism on the topic of the preservation of our nation.
Self-preservation should be a national minimum, yet it’s a mainstream view, with double-digit support, that such sentiment is wrong. It’s routinely and openly dismissed and ridiculed, mostly by urbanites. There were, are, and will be voices calling for this sentiment to be pathologized and criminalized.
I stand with Israel because it’s the canary I can point to when I draw a red line at the notion that my national identity is a sickness that should be cured; that by becoming a homeless European individual, a working unit of a geographical area that opened its borders to the world, I’ll find ascendance, happiness, peace and love, reciprocated by the faceless masses around me.
That it will be like a desert rave for peace, an endless, unarmed orgy that will never be interrupted by barbarians shouting durka-durka to slaughter and rape the helplessly decadent continentals, out of envy, out of spite, out of revenge; as an outlet for the rage of excess young men who still hold on to a strong tribal identity and have a healthy hunger for the things men are supposed to crave. The legitimacy of their grievance, the innocence or sympathies of their target is not up for debate, they’re not coming to have a conversation. No Aaron Sorkin character with a verbal diarrhea standing up to them will save the day.
The erasure of Hungarian identity will be a genocide, first a soft one, then, as soon as the opportunity presents itself, a hard one. Nature abhors a vacuum, and a mass — not nation! — of people that learned to be helpless when others come for their things, their land, generates less pushback than a mosquito’s fart. The perpetrators will unabashedly call it a genocide, just like they call the assault on Israel today as one. Find a bubble where the alien feels comfortable to express themselves truthfully, and recoil in horror, European.
It’s not just auslanders though. A few locals, who believe they can get away with celebrating the genocide of Europe, already do so; our own kin, civilians on social media and politicians with a platform. Call them out while you can, because standing up to those who want you broke, dead, your kids raped and brainwashed, and think it's funny, will one day be a fond memory of a more civilized time!
Adopt the Israeli mindset, the existential siege mentality as a national minimum, and I promise you, pointing at the example of Israel, that you can still have gay parades.
Apropos Aaron Sorkin: They still say that Jed Bartlet was the best president America ever had.
The situation is different for a diaspora, but somewhat similar. The largest Hungarian newspaper in America Szabadság wrote an introduction to a directory of noteworthy American-Hungarians, celebrating as a fait accompli the absorption of its readership into the great American Mass. What did we give up and what did we get? Is it what we expected? Was it inevitable? Can I resurrect some kind of Hungarian-ness for me and my children? A reverse soft-genocide.
